Adaptive Avalanche Rec 1 Course

The Adaptive Avalanche Rec 1 Course is hosted by Inclusive Outdoors Project. We are proud to partner with Beartooth Powder Guides to help certify our adaptive community in traveling safely in the backcountry and building leaders within this space.

Course Location:

  • April 10 - Test run up Bear Canyon, Bozeman, MT

  • April 11-13: Beartooth Mountains outside of Cooke City, MT.  

Travel Recommendation:

  • Fly into Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN)

  • Arrive on April 9th after 4 pm

  • Depart on April 14th before 10 am

    ***Please let us know if you will be driving to Bozeman

Lodging/Food

  • April 9, 10, and 13: Airbnb in Bozeman

  • April 11-13: The Roost in Cooke City

    • Snowmobile access provided by guides

    • Full Backcountry lodge with running water, heat, and electricity

  • Food will be provided from April 9th to April 14th

    • A survey on dietary restrictions will be sent after the application process

Who: 

  • 8 participants

  • Guided by Beartooth Powder Guides

  • Facilitated by Vasu Sojitra, Dani Aravich, and Ryan Zahn 

This course will be open to physically disabled athletes who 2-track (standing skier on two skis), 3-track (standing skier with two outriggers), or snowboarders.  Our hope is to grow this program and expand to more disabilities, including vision impairments, d/Deaf, and sit skiers/boarders once we have the resources available and the respective communities' involvement. 

Cost:

  • $1000 per participant including a $250 non-refundable course deposit

  • Including transportation from Bozeman to Cooke City and back to Bozeman,  Avalanche Rec 1 certification course (which typically ranges from $700-$1000 alone!), lodging for the course, rental if needed, and meals

  • NOT Included is travel to and from Bozeman from where you are based

    *** An additional form will be sent to those who need financial support for course fees only.

Next Steps:

  • Deadline to Apply is February 7th 

  • Applicants will be notified by February 10th if they are admitted to the course.

  • All participants must pay a $250 deposit to hold your spot

  • Due to our programs having lengthy waitlists, applicants are required to pay the deposit within three days of notification to save their spot (February 13th).
